A Dream

I had a really odd dream tonight. Odd in the way that I can’t seem to stop thinking about it, no matter what I do.

When the dream began I was walking in the forest with my mother. There were a lot of people, as though we were visiting a fair, but I couldn’t see any display tables.

After we had walked for quite a while I asked my mother for a bone. I was sure she would reject me but she just said “Sure, pick a grave.”. To our left there stood a man in dark grey attire and i pointed to the grave in front of him. He pulled off a beige felt cover and revealed a wolf lying on a wooden surface roughly half a meter below the earth.

For a reason unknown to myself I was overcome with fear and stepped away from the grave. Again and again I pleaded that I didn’t want the bone anymore, that it doesn’t matter if I don’t get one. Yet the wolf, even though in my dream I knew it was dead, frantically started scratching it’s food against the wooden surface, increasingly fast as I protested.

I fell silent as the gentleman in grey merely said “It’s too late, the bone is yours already.”. He walked up to the wolf and with his bare hands he pulled a bone from its leg. I heard some cracking, and to follow up with the sound it seemed that I was given a bone cracked on one end. At first only blood came pouring out from the cracked end and in my dream I could convince myself that it was natural. As time progressed however, the blood turned into water, flowing even more aggressively that before.

I was unsure about what to do and so I made a decision that I find hard to follow now that I am awake. I put the bone to my lips and started trying to drink all the water that came pouring out, but it wouldn’t stop. My dream ends with me desperately attempting to drink all the water that came flowing.

I am unsure if in the last seconds before I woke up the water finally subsided. I really wish that I knew now. Maybe after writing it down I will finally be able to concentrate on something other than this dream.

I had the most beautiful birthday- filled with a flight home, a caramel birthday brownie, canned heineken and eventually apple-jello cake and pepper steak.

4 months of being back home. This is just the most lovely thing.
